Wealth, Poverty, and Morality
by SecondRateMind ini am interested in the approach this forum takes to money.
apart from sex, (which i am quite relaxed about) it seems to me that wealth is the surest divider between those who are moral, and those who are not.. it seems jesus thought so, also.
luke 16:19-31 kjv describes well enough his dusty attitude to the rich who do not succour the poor.. and this world has many poor: so many, it might seem that we can do nothing about it, and twist his words; 'the poor ye shall have always with you, but me, ye shall not have always.

mentalclarity - What you said goes along with an experience I saw on program. A woman from the USA had seen how the lepers were treated in India and wanted to help. She paired up with a UN representative. While they were driving in the city, a woman with leprosy begged outside the car and so the American lady gave her money. The UN lady said, "If you give one more person money like that, you can't be on this team" (or something like that) The reason she stated was "If you give someone something for free, they don't value it" Instead, the two ladies set up a "bank" where money could be loaned to the lepers. At first, only the women in the colony were involved. They took out money and bought sewing machines. When they became successful, the men also started borrowing to start businesses. From hopelessness and poverty, the colony with their own hard work, prospered.
I think the UN lady was right.

Mexican drug lord El Chapo personally killed 4 Witnesses in the 80's
by Richard_I inus prosecutors are reportedly considering charging 'el chapo' guzman with the killings of 6 us citizens and a dea agent.
"the first killings came on december 2, 1984, when four jehovah's witness missionaries, two men and two women, knocked on the door of a drug lord.
godoy, who was then also working as a body guard for ernesto fonseca, another guadalajara kingpin, said the missionaries were tortured and the women raped.

I remember several times saying to myself "I should go witness to this person. Just because I am afraid of how this person gives me the creeps, I should ignore it and do it" But in the end I wouldn't. I just couldn't make myself cross that intuition.
Now when I see stories like this, I'm mad and sad that the jerks running the organization - in front like the GB or behind the scenes - aren't held responsible for it. Maybe that is why they encourage the carts. Just another sneaky way of slowly extracting themselves from a liability.
Wasn't there another story told by the WT itself, of a sister that did territory by alone and was later found dead, tied up in the trunk of her car? They used it as a warning to not go out without a partner. As if that never would have happened if there were two sisters.....

Good photo shopping!
Haha I could imagine a comedy skit with this. Two sisters manning a JW cart, watch as two more sister appear with their cart. They smile and nod at them.
After the new arrivals are set up proper, they turn and smile at the others. Then one of the JW sisters looks at the display and her mouth drops open. She looks at the other sister, then leans over and whispers in her ear. The other sister looks over and her smile turns crooked. Hurriedly, they pack up their cart and run away.

Since the shroud of the JW religion has left my eyes, I understand one of the reasons why, the idealist vision of John Lennon and many others have not come true.
People's personalities, their life experiences and even the deficients that they were born with, all have a part in why this world continues to be unequal.
Until I worked for a person like my boss, I wouldn't have realized how harmful working for a greedy, so called Christian psychopath was. And I don't say psychopath lightly. He has and probably will, continue to steal hours, rearrange overtime so that it isn't and generally display actions showing he doesn't care a fig about anyone. I then imagine him the head of a country. Since he has no conscience, people would come last on his list to take care of unless they could provide money or labor for him.
When I look at the leaders of the world, I wonder how many fall into that category. Rich people if they believe in God, probably excuse themselves just like the religious leaders for their lack. Or maybe they did work really hard to come by their money and to give any away, would seem like an injustice to them.
When I was young, I wanted everything to be fair. I was willing to sacrifice for the benefit of others. Now I know, that some of those wanting you to sacrifice for them, are users.

He kind of looks like Drew Carrey, except he isn't funny. To me he seems like a milktoast type of guy. Can you imagine him going up against Tony?
All his examples are in the negative vein which means, the Watchtower knows everyone is grumbling about the forced donations and money begging. The final line is - Jehovah really loved the Israelites for keeping their promise. If you don't keep your promise to give us your money, Jehovah won't love you.

You might be a Jehovah's Witness if.......
by Sour Grapes inyou might be a jehovah's witness if, to not feel guilty on saturday morning, you ride in a car with a group of adults driving in circles around town taking turns to get out one at a time to knock on a door that you hoped no one would answer.. you might be a jw if going on vacation meant going to a summer regional or district assembly where you did not need to pack shorts, tennis shoes, or tank tops.
.
you might be a jw if for lunch at the summer convention you and your family ate breakfast food from the holiday inn where you are staying for the summer assembly.. you might be a jw if the first thing that you think about when waking up in the morning is that it is meeting night.. you might be a jw if you introduce a person to another jw, not by the person's name by as my bible study.. you might be a jw if you don't celebrate christmas but will take the money from your employer to not come to work so that you can celebrate it..

If you are in a conversation with others who don't go to the Kingdom hall, instead of enjoying it, you are trying to think of ways to show how bad the world is and that God's Kingdom is the only solution...
you are a JW.

From a Witness point of view, the Two Witness rule has been established by the Watchtower, as being the only way to be fair and just to a person that has been accused. It has been repeatedly mentioned in study articles.
This of course, only makes it a paradise for a child molester. Without a confession from the molester or an eyewitness to the act besides the child, the elders will simply shrug their shoulders and say it's up to God to do something. Most witnesses, although frustrated, will do what the Watchtower says. They also will be hesitant to call the authorities because they have been repeatedly told that doing so, would bring reproach on God's name.
The other sad thing is, the Elders would happily consider a second child victim as another witness. So one child's testimony is not enough, you have to wait till another child is molested. Then the Elders are satisfied - sometimes.
During the Australian Royal Commission's examination of the Two Witness Rule, Angus Stewart for the ARC, brought out that there was an example found in the same account of the two witnesses, that only had one witness. A woman that was raped out in the fields and had screamed - tho no one heard her - successfully testified against the rapist and he was killed for his act. One of the Governing Body (one of eight men that lead the religion) wouldn't directly answer why they couldn't use that example in the case of a child being molested and testifying as one witness and being believed.
Most witnesses will not go against what the Governing Body says in this regards. It would be like going against the pope if you were Catholic. The reaction you will get if you try to make a point with a JW over this is - fear and strong denial.
The Governing Body, knowing full well that the ARC proceedings would show them to be an organization that didn't report child abuse by calling the police, recently put out another video saying they would always stick to the Two Witness rule. This was their way of making it about the Bible and that they were being righteous for sticking with that rule. So they couldn't be blamed for letting pedophiles remain in the congregation (and molesting more children) because hey, there was only one witness to the crime.
A few things that Witnesses have been told:
- Allegations that the Watchtower is hiding pedophiles is "Apostate driven lies"
- Child sexual abuse happens everywhere, so sometimes it happens within the JW world.
- These are isolated cases.
- Elders should be consulted first, not the police.
So as you can see, most JW's are guided to believe that the Two Witness rule is the best way to deal with any case, including child sexual abuse. They would have difficulty believing any thing that is negative about it. But it also worth a shot to try to help them see the situation in a new way.
Hope your efforts work.

For those who still believe in the bible, going to a friendly church helps. Some have gone on to do volunteer work that really helps people. And like the previous posters say, find some hobbies and meet people.
It is different than being in a closed environment. JW's are taught to be nice to all other JW's even if they are mean, snobby etc. So most make an effort to get along with everyone. But like my sister and I found out, that kind of "lets be friends" right off the bat at work, actually causes suspicion and makes people draw back. So there is adjustments in how to deal with the real world.
I hope your counseling goes well.

You sound like you are going on a down swing. But if you take a breath and realize you have time to sort things out, it will be ok. I didn't have to spend a long time in the "truth" when I found it wasn't so I can see it would be difficult.
There are many here in your situation and they can give you some good advice.
Just by posting here, you can relieve a lot of stress. Hang in there
